5 – 4 – 3 – 2 – 1 – LEGO!!!

Up at 5am and on the road by 6 – what a LONG LONG day it was yesterday!  J and her team did an amazing job at the competition.  Their skit was about how to ensure dairy is safely pasterized and transported to your kitchen table. With their cow hats and their GSRI investigator lab coats on they were so cute!   The picture of all 54 teams and captains – all these children who have a passion for Science Technology Education and Math (STEM) and a wish to someday create something that will change the world was trulhy inspirational.  Their first round of robot competition was excellent and put them in 14 out of 54th place. We were all so excited!  With this being our first time at the FIRST Lego League we went with no promise of a prize, just the thought of the experience. This first round was AWESOME!  They were all very positive and started working on a 3rd program right away.  Round 2 wasn’t as successful as they watched their robot get caught up.  Slightly defeated they went back to the computer and tried reprograming.  With high hearts they went to the table with success in their grasp.  Sadly program 3 stalled again getting stuck around the kitchen sink.  With the hopes tha ttheir highest score in round 1 would keep them in the competition we watched other teams get lego awards.  Exhausted and defeated the girls went home with participation medals and empty hands.  Thankfully J’s spirit wasn’t completely defeated – she said she’d be willing to do it again next year!  Yeah?   HUH? Well it was an experience and we’re all glad we did it.  DH’s even intersted in getting a team started up at the Middle school for MD!

This morning MD and I went door to door taking GS cookie orders in our neighborhood.  It’s only a brisk 20 degrees out so we froze our butts off!  15 boxes sold!   Now we’re all sitting around the TV in our PJs enjoying the day!  Hope everyone has a respectful Martin Luther King Day!
