DC We’re back!

So I know I talked about going to the Girl Scout Singalong at DC for the 100th Anniversary, but I don’t think I told you that we went and are back!  What an amazing experience the girls had!  First let me say that there were 24 girls and 8 adults!  UGH!  Well we left on Thursday and came back on Sunday – a very long adventure but something they will never forget!

We saw the White House, the Capital, the Library of Congress, the Smithsonian, the following memorials – the Lincoln, Washington, Jefferson, Martin Luther, Korean, Vietnam, and the Airforce.  The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, the Eternal Flame at Arlington, Embassy Row, the Metro and the I ❤ DC store.  Honestly I think the last one made the biggest impact on the girls!  They spent a fortune on splatter clothes and hats at that store!  We ate at Union Station – which was cool!

On Saturday was the actual Girl Scout Singalong and it was HOT!  They say there were actually 300,000 people there and boy it felt like it!  Here’s some picture:

DC some people

Here’s an amazing ariel view – those are all people!

Here’s a link to the picture so you can zoom in – http://www.facebook.com/#!/photo.php?fbid=466028416758711&set=a.227783787249843.72360.203257599702462&type=1&theater

So if you zoom in around that Jumbo tron in the middle of the picture near the tents – there’s are 3 green sheets!  See where the arrow is pointing – that’s us!!

Oh and yes those are people in line for WATER!!!!  45 mins I waited to refill 3 gallon water jugs – which thank goodness we had them and Gatorade mix because 8 people were sent to the hospital with dehydration and heat exhaustion and hundreds of people were treated as well.  It was HOT!!  So hot the firefighters came out with hoses and sprayed us down!

Of course I was able to find a Hidden Mickey!

Well considering how many people we had and how hot it got there we were fortunate not to lose a leader or a girl!  Everyone cam home safely.  Unfortunately it took about 3 days for most of us to recover from heat exhaustion and dehydration!  But definitely a trip I’d take again!  Here’s a picture from the Jefferson!

So where are we off to next?  Well my Junior troop of 15 girls are off to the 911 Memorial in NYC in a few weeks.  Why?  Well they asked to go!  My troop wasn’t alive at 9/11 so they were very confused about the 10 year anniversary last year.  So we fundraised and planned and after a generous donation we’re off!

LOL – when I asked the where they wanted to go next, one girl said “I know this sounds crazy, but how about the Grand Canyon.”  and I said “Raise the money, do the planning and why not?”  I know they want to go to Watkins Glen at the Finger Lakes in NY, but I think the Grand Canyon could be done.  Lots of fundraising!!!  Anyone want some Thin Mints!!?!?!?

Hope you’re staying cool!  Have a Magical Day!
